Every August the staff of Locke Design Omnimedia begin to plan in earnest our Christmas event for our clients and the community. Generally this consists of a large party and printed Christmas Card but this year we wanted something different, a virtual event that thousands could attend. We wanted a greeting that would evoke childhood Christmas memories of old and could involve our staff, brand ambassadors, family and dear friends of our graphic design, advertising and photography firm.
T’was the Night Before Christmas (or its true name “A Visit from St. Nicholas”) lives in the collective memories of most Americans as our imaginary view of Santa’s visit. As we began looking for a theme, Clement Moore’s poem truly stuck out in our minds. The poem, which has been called “arguably the best-known verses ever written by an American” is largely responsible for some of the conceptions of Santa Clause from the mid-nineteenth century to today, and has had a massive impact on the history of gift giving.
What did we do and how did we do it?
First, we broke the poem down into lines and then secured our staff and friends to participate. Then assigned each one of them a few lines. The lines we filmed out of sequence and each with at least three takes each so we ended up with over 150 video clips that had to be reviewed and then sequenced. The actual filming required about 10 hours in our studio at Locke Design. Lighting, sound and backdrop were setup and even dress and props had to be coordinated all before the big day of videography. Then the editing began, graphics and musical score were added. Around 60 man hours went into just 3 minutes of video.
Graphics for the #Twasthenightfordesign were inspired by the book designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in 1896 “The House Beautiful” The graphic ornaments and fonts used in the campaigns logo and e-cards are all inspired by this beautiful Arts and Crafts style book only printed in 97 copies.
Celebrate with us and win a gift
Our campaign to wish our community and friends Merry Christmas is branded as #Twasthenightfordesign. We ask everyone on our social media networks to hashtag any great holiday design they may find from that beautiful Christmas tree, or card, to a beautiful wrapped gift. Hashtag anything that makes you merry and you feel is beautiful. One lucky person will win our drawing that uses the hashtag and will win a special gift from Locke Design!
What else can you do to help make our greeting a success? Please share our video! It is our dream that our greeting go viral, crisscross the nation and globe to wish others a Merry Christmas! Please share our video on your social networks and email to your friends and family.
Locke Design is also celebrating Christmas this year with our annual lighting display at 2006 Main Street in Anderson, SC. We hope you will take a moment to ride by our studio. Also, during the 25 days of Christmas we will post a vintage Christmas Card graphic design with an inspirational quote each day to all of our social networks.
Merry Christmas 2015 from your friends at Locke Design Omnimedia!
