Top 5 Trends in Advertising

Our wants and needs are constantly changing and evolving. Often, those “wants and needs" change based on what we see day to day. Whether consciously or
subconsciously, we are fed hundreds of advertisements every day and unless they
are substantial enough to catch our eye, we will forget it. This pushes the people
behind the advertisement to work all the more. They have to know what is current
and what is trending right now. We live in a society of tomorrow’s news. So what is
going to catch our eye today?

1) Interactive Content
Typical content is content you can read, and then there is the interactive content. This interactive content tends to be the more popular of the two. The idea behind this interactive content is to push consumers to actively participate rather than passively consume. Interactive content can present itself as anything from quizzes, polls, and surveys to infographics, brackets, and contests.

2) Influencer Marketing
It is great to have advertisements about your product or service, but what
would take your business to the next level? A well-known and loved social media
personality that would advocate for your product or service to all of his or her
followers is the answer. This type of marketing is a hot trend because we tend to trust big names and the people that we admire. Typically when a social media personality works with a brand, it is because they genuinely trust in that brand, and this trust is passed on to the consumer.

3) Mobile Video
If you have checked out your Facebook feed recently, you will see that the
majority of it is filled with videos. With the introduction of smart phones in the past
7 years, we have had the world at our fingertips, offering immediate information anytime we want it. For businesses, this has opened up an entire new world of marketing. With
such ease of access to social media and the Internet, businesses have utilized this to
place videos, commercials, and advertisements everywhere you navigate.

4) Automated Ad Buying
Today, to go anywhere or search anything on the Internet without being
“watched”, is virtually impossible. Our every search, every website visited, and
clicked links are monitored by companies all over the world. What they call “cookies”, track everything you do and places advertisements for products or services, which relate
to your Internet activity, all around you. For example, if you did a Google search for
kitchen appliances, as you move on from that and visit other websites or check
Facebook, you will notice advertisements about kitchen appliances and different
companies that sell such things.

5) Ad Blockers
Almost a third of Internet users today are using ad blockers. No one likes to see
ads and frankly, some people see it as invasive. As backward as this seems, some
businesses have used this to their advantage. For example, if you have ever used
Spotify or Pandora music services, you know that they have a free version but there
are ads in between songs. Services like these have used this to their advantage to
encourage customers to pay for a premium account with more features but most
importantly, no ads. As ironic as it is, these services advertise about their no
advertisements.
