ARTIST STATEMENT
The art and architecture of Europe has been a guiding influence on my work since my earliest years as an artist and designer. Many of the works presented in this show are drawn from my early oeuvre from a tour of Central and Southern Spain in 2004 using 35mm film and again a visit to the Catalonia region in 2011 using digital mediums.
Three themes were the guiding force in the selection of the works; Flamenco dancing, the modern and organic architectural forms of Antoni Gaudí, which greatly influence my graphic design sensibilities, and the historical architecture of Spain. The linking force between the disparate elements presented in this collection of work is a raw, unadorned, rusticated, elegant simplicity, and an honesty to the character of materials that is uniquely Spanish whether avant-garde or traditional.
Throughout this collection various substrates and printing techniques have been employed from photography sublimated onto aluminum to printing on glass, metallic papers, canvas and watercolor paper. Watercolor and logo design also delineate the influence of Spain on my work beyond the realm of photography into other mediums.
Special thanks to Steve and Jill Strickland at Strickland Fine Art for framing all of the works in this show. Visit their website at http://jillstricklandart.com
