In early autumn 2015 the creative director and founder of Locke Design Omnimedia, David Locke was honored to be selected as the artist for the AnMed Pediatric Therapy Works Fundraiser, The Camellia Ball. AnMed Pediatric Therapy Works serves children living with developmental disorders and physical impairments requiring specialized care. The ball is held annually in February, and since its inception a local artist has been selected to portray a camellia flower in their unique style and medium. The work is then given to the sponsors in the form of a print and hangs in the AnMed Health Womens and Childrens Hospital’s Camellia Cafe. This year’s hosts Jimmy and Amy Kimbell asked David to be the artist, the first photographer ever selected and only the second male artist.
Our creative director set out brainstorming with Mrs. Kimbell and the the director of development for AnMed, Lynn Stoddard on imagery and theme for the work. Three separate photoshoots were scheduled, one in a local garden, the second in studio and the third involving a night architectural photo. Night architectural photography is a primary motif in Locke’s oeuvre. The theme for this year’s ball was New Orleans so the third set of images using a gas lantern and floral designs by Mrs. Kimbrell became the favorite choice. The final piece entitled “New Orleans Lantern with Camellias” was unveiled at the sponsor party for the Camellia Ball held at The Bleckley Inn in Anderson, SC the night of the ball. Our client and friend Gary Collins of Collins Landscaping sponsored the artwork and framing for this year’s piece. Our creative director was so honored for this selection and thanks everyone involved for this recognition in Upstate SC and the Anderson Community.
