Glass Artist Dale Chihuly is my favorite living artist. For years I've followed his work beginning with a visit to the Corcoran Gallery in Washington DC while I was in college. I also attended an exhibition of his Garden Cycle at Atlanta Botanical Gardens in which Chihuly places his glass forms in the garden landscape. His organic forms appear to grow from the Earth in his garden installations.
In July of 2017 my wife and two boys were fortunate to visit Chihuly Garden and Glass, a comprehensive museum of the artist's work at the foot of the Space Needle in Seattle, Washington. Few times in a designer's life can they say an exhibition is seminal in their understanding of design and deeply inspiring to their own artistic and design work. This visit was one of these times! Chihuly's expressions of color and shape are deeply inspiring. Further, the visit gave me a deeper understanding of process art and has inspired new photographic and paintings in my own oeuvre.
Chihuly Garden and Glass is an indoor and outdoor museum and garden. The facility exhibits Chihuly's work in various themed rooms covering the development of his work and spotlighting various techniques including his glass baskets, chandeliers, putti, mille fiori, floats, maccia and Persians just to name a few. The masterpiece of the museum is one of Chihuly's largest sculptures of Red and Orange Persians housed in a custom glass house.

When in the Pacific North West, Chihuly Garden and Glass is a must see for anyone!
